戦前のカメラのシャッターにはこんな穴のあるものがありました。

これは簡易セルフタイマーと呼ばれ、この穴に長い糸の付いた針を
差し込んでシャッターを切るとシャッターは開かずにホールドされます。
カメラから離れて糸を引くと、針が外れてシャッターが落ちるという仕掛けです。

If you insert a needle with long threadin the hole, the shutter will hold
when you push the trigger. Then you face the camera from feets away
and pull the thread, the shutter fires to take your own photo.
