Asahi Kogaku had been established in 1919 for manufacturing lenses. They supplied lenses for Konishiroku (now Konica) and then for Minolta. After the WWII, they first made binoculars. But they wanted to embark into the camera production and kept developing something special. In the May 1952, they introduced the first Japanese 35mm SLR camera, the Asahiflex I. Two years later they developed the world's first mass produced quick |eturn mirror system and incorporated it in their Asahiflex IIB. In 1957, they introduced the Asahi Pentax AP with an eye-level finder with pentagonal prism and set the standard for the modern 35mm cameras. After that, they made SLR's of every format from 110 to 6X7.
