A Happy New Year 2002 明るいレンズから未来は見えるか？ Will we see a bright future through fast lenses?

In the '60s, Japanese manufacturers competed in designing leaf shutter CRF cameras with very fast lenses. Here are those with F1.6 or faster lenses. (back row left to right) Kallo 140(F1.4) and Aires 35V(F1.5) (center)Konica Auto S1.6 (front row l-to-r) Yashica Linx 14 (F1.4)and Mamiya Super Delux(F1.5)

In the late '50s makers of leaf shutter cameras tried to catch up the focal plane shutter cameras with interchangeable lens systems. The Aires 35V in 1958 and the Kallo 140 in 1959 were two of the gigantic sample of such effort. The fast lens syndrome again fevered in the mid '60s with Mamiya Super Delux 1.5 of 1965 and Yashica Lynx 14 followed the same year. Konica followed two years later with thier Auto S 1.6 with a conservative F1.6 lens. After that Konica turned the market trend toward compact cameras with their Konica C35 and such big-eyed fixed lens cameras never appeared again.
